Sambodhi Home for the Disabled cares for 47 individuals ranging in age from 7 to 75 near Galle on the southern coast of Sri Lanka. The residents here experience physical and or intellectual disability. Founded in 1964, Sambodhi Home is a private home which largely depends on the generosity of the local and visiting community. From becoming a regular donor, to joining our volunteer camps, you have a unique opportunity to help the often neglected and underprivileged members of our society.
The individuals’ stories in Sambodhi Home are varied; some the heart wrenching Bollywood story of poverty, the early passing of a sole parent or similar traumas while others have no tragedy only the cold-hearted indifference of families who have passed on the responsibility of care with no plausible excuse. Whether you are passing through for a day or here for some time, you too can make a difference to the lives of our residents. With limited staff and resources, residents depend largely on each other for mobility assistance and guidance in daily tasks. Alms giving remains the main source of food and utilities. Sambodhi Home Projects aims to improve the lives of the residents by building on its current projects and increasing its supporters.
